At a time when English standards and educational opportunities in Hong Kong are declining, the need for a tuition free, quality English education program like Summerbridge is significant. Summerbridge effectively cultivates academic achievement from financially disadvantaged students and encourages older students to invest themselves in teaching and civic-service. As a testament to the success of "students teaching students", Summerbridge Hong Kong students consistently score higher on their Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) English results than their peers. In 2005, for example, 91.4% of Summerbridge graduates passed the English paper (Syllabus A) of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) compared to the Hong Kong average of 52.1%; 95.6% of Summerbridge graduates passed the English paper (Syllabus B) of the HKCEE compared to the Hong Kong average of 70.6%.
