HISTORY

With the philosophy of "students teaching students" serving as its foundation, the Summerbridge organization was established in San Francisco in 1978. This successful program has served as a model for numerous other sites in the United States and four sites in Hong Kong, and is highly recognized throughout the U.S. as an effective academic enrichment program. At its inception in Hong Kong in 1992, the organization hosted a single summer program at Island School, serving 35 secondary students and 15 high school and college volunteers. Over the past 14 years, Summerbridge Hong Kong has matured into a highly regarded educational institution. Today, Summerbridge Hong Kong is an important, innovative, and effective urban educational initiative with two sites in Hong Kong hosting year-round educational enrichment programs.
