THE SUMMERBRIDGE STUDENTS

Summerbridge students are highly motivated yet, due to their economic and social backgrounds, have fewer opportunities to reach their potential in school. Many of the students also face obstacles such as having recently immigrated from China, or missing one or both parents.

What makes Summerbridge students truly exceptional is their enthusiasm to learn and their eagerness to succeed. The Summerbridge admissions process is highly selective and looks for students who are both motivated and willing to committ to the program for 14 consecutive months. Students range in age from fourteen to eighteen; most are enrolled in schools where the language of instruction is Cantonese. A majority of Summerbridge students live in government housing estates and attend school in or close to their own estate. Prior to their involvement in Summerbridge, students have had little experience communicating in English.
