Teaching a Subject at Summerbridge

One of the most exciting parts about being a teacher at Summerbridge is that staff choose the subject they want to teach. The difficulty is figuring out how to challenge students in class when their knowledge of most subjects is higher than what they can express to you in English? The key piece to this puzzle is not to teach a subjects they have already studied in school, like geometry. Instead, teach a subject that is important, relevant and interesting but not in their school textbooks, such as city planning, architecture, space science, or filmmaking. Doing so will challenge students to think critically and express their opinions while exposing them to new areas of learning.
